The Mission: Impossible series doesn’t look like it is getting any weaker by the looks of it. Each film has brought something new to the series.
The espionage element in the first, who could forget the sweat dropping break in scene?
The cliff scene opening to number two not only introduced us to a John Woo Mission: Impossible film, but also Tom Cruise’s insane stunt work.
The third film has the late, great Philip Seymour Hoffman as an immense villain and the bridge action set piece was epic!
Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol introduced Jeremy Renner and will always be known as the one where Tom Cruise climbed the world’s tallest building; abseiling down the Burj Khalifa in Dubai himself and kept stunt men out of work!
The fifth film here has Cruise hanging on to a huge plane thousands of feet in British skies – and yes he does this himself!
It’s something I have always wanted to do. (Director Christopher McQuarrie) and I have been thinking about it since working on ‘Edge of Tomorrow.’ I have done a lot of underwater sequences. But we wanted to create a suspense underwater sequence without cuts. So doing that sequence was really interesting. We’re underwater and we’re doing breath-holds of 6 to 6 1/2 minutes. So I was doing all my training with the other stuff (on-set). It was very taxing stuff.
When you’re making ‘Mission’ movies you’re working with athletes and stunt people at the height of their game.Read more from Tom Cruises interview with USA Today.
